MEN'S GOLF

I guess men have nothing better to do then to play golf once the weather gets a little nicer. Some men, they don't care if it is in the 20's, they will play as long as it isn't raining. Isn't that right, Goodie!

My emails regarding golf can become very confusing since men have 4 different ways of joining other Regency men in playing golf -

1. Wednesday golf at the Meadows (Ron Post)
2. The traveling golf group (Goodie Mollen; Jerry Scott)
3. The Thursday men's league here at Regency (Shelly Borak; Shelly Rubin)
4. The Friday men's group here at Regency (Stan Sandler)

Next to each of the different golf games is the person(s) you can contact if you want more information.

Here is some information from some of the games:

WEDNESDAY GOLF AT THE MEADOWS

We now have 51 players using 13 tee times. I will open up "enrollment" to other players who would like to join this group. Even though 13 tee times would have a max of 52 players, I am going to add 3-4 addtional players since each week we usually find ourselves with more then four players who can't play. If you are interested in joining this group, just send me an email.

If you had told me that you wanted to be a regular but your name isn't on the list below, please send me a note that you want to be a regular.

This year the opening day will be WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16TH. If you aren't able to play until after this date, please send me a note as to when you will be able to start. Also, and very important, I will be making up the foursomes for the first four weeks. If you can't play on April 16, April 23, April 30, May 7, you must send me a note or you will be scheduled to play. Once you are scheduled to play, it would be your responsibility to find a sub, if you can, to take your place if you can't play.
A new rule this year that WILL be enforced is if you can't play but are scheduled and you can't find a sub, you will have to pay our new Treasurer, Jerry Stollar, $10, Jerry will reimburse the other players for the additional cost of the cart. If the foursome becomes a twosome, those players not playing, but scheduled, will still have to pay Jerry Stollar $10. Jerry will let me know if this money has been paid prior to the next schedule going out. If it hasn't then the player will not be scheduled.
Unfortunately I received LOTS of complaints from players who do play regarding other players who don't show up and sometimes don't even have the courtesy of calling others in their foursome, that they won't be able to play. Hopefully this might discourage this type of situation from happening.

The season will end on Wednesday, OCTOBER 1st. If you are leaving to parts unkown for the winter, prior to this date, please let me know.

The golf season will be 27 weeks long this year. Each week we will have some sort of tournament. Jerry Scott and Marty Kornfeld will be our TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS. One new rule, a tournament will only be played when we have 6 or more foursomes playing. Last year, we had a few brave golfers who played in inclement weather where they and maybe one or two other foursomes showed up.

This year we will charge each player $30 for the season (win one tournament and you will be $20 ahead of the game since our prize for each tournament will be $50). If our Treasurer informs me that towards the end of the season we will have a surplus of funds, we probably will have two tournaments for a select number of weeks. That's $100!! This will cover the cost of the tournaments plus our usual gift to Susan from the Meadows for coordinating our tee times (plus other things). This money should be paid to Jerry Stollar as soon as possible. I will start doing our first schedule probably on April 1st so you must be paid up by then. If you are in Florida, just mail Jerry a check.

Sometime in March we will hold a meeting to just go over some rules and as usual, discuss how we can move the game along. It seems like each year the Rangers come to me to say that some Regency groups are very slow and they have asked that I speak to everyone regarding this problem. This coming year the Rangers were told (from the Managing Company) that if they find slow foursomes, they will ask the foursome to leave. Each player in a foursome controls their foursome and if someone is slow, you must ask that person to speed things up. If you are looking for a golf ball for 10 minutes or you have taken a double par number of swings for a hole, you might be endangering your foursome by being told to leave the golf course. Please do not give the Ranger a hard time if you are being asked to leave. He is just doing his job. If the foursome in front of you is slowing you down, let the Ranger know. However, if the foursome in front of you is two or more holes ahead of you, then it is your foursome and not the foursomes in front of you.

Schedules will be posted on my BLOG.

A RESIDENT IS ASKING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM

Do you know of anybody experiencing problems with HD service from comcast? We have been getting tiling (mosaic pattern) on the HD channels which make for a pretty design but does not transmit a clear picture.

EMAILER'S NOTE: I WROTE TO THE RESIDENT ABOUT A PROBLEM THAT I HAVE WHICH COMCAST HAS NO FIX FOR IT. SEE IF YOU HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. IF YOU TRY TO DO A SERIES RECORDING FOR SOME SHOWS, LIKE OPRAH AT 4 PM, IT JUST DOESN'T ALLOW YOU TO DO THE SERIES. IT USUALLY HAPPENS ON CHANNELS 2, 4, 5, 7 BUT ONLY ON SELECT SHOWS. SO, FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS, WITH 4 TECHS COMING TO MY HOME, COMCAST IS NOW GIVING ME A CREDIT FOR MY BOXES. ONE TECH CALLED THE CENTRAL OFFICE AND ASKED SOMEONE IN THEIR TECH DEPT. TO DO A SERIES RECORDING AND THAT PERSON COULDN'T DO IT EITHER. SO WHILE THEY ARE FIGURING OUT WHAT TO DO, I JUST KEEP ASKING FOR A CREDIT AND NO QUESTIONS ASKED, THEY GIVE IT TO ME. SOME OTHER RESIDENTS WHO I TOLD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ALSO HAVE THE PROBLEM AND ARE NOW GETTING CREDITS. I GUESS IT IS EASIER FOR THEM TO GIVE A CREDIT THEN SEND OUT TECHS WHO CAN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

ONE TECH BELIEVES THAT THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE BOXES. IF THEY GET IN 10 BOXES, 5 OF THEM MIGHT HAVE THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER TECH SAID, IT'S THE INFORMATION THEY RECEIVE FROM THE VARIOUS STATIONS THAT GO INTO THEIR PROGRAM GUIDE.

ARE YOU MISSING A GARBAGE PAIL?

There is a round garbage can and a rectangular garbage can cover on the
corner of Hogan and Country Club Drive. They've been there for a few days.
Perhaps someone would like to claim them.

A THANK YOU MESSAGE FROM LORRAINE ZIMMERMAN

I would like to thank all my friends back home at Regency for all their kindness and support during my convalescence from hip replacement surgery. I'm so fortunate to have such wonderful and caring friends. I look forward to seeing everyone real soon.

Love,
Lorraine

A THANK YOU NOTE FROM DIANNE ROBINS

To all my incredible Regency Friends,
It is impossible to express my thanks for the caring and support I have received from the Regency Community. The thoughtful calls, visits, and meals have certainly eased my pain as I am recovering from my accident. With all my appreciation and love,

WATER HEATER SHUT OFF VALVE

Some homes, like mine, have a hot water heater in a closet UPSTAIRS. It has a metal basin on the bottom with an opening to let the water flow down the opening, through a pipe and it empty's outside. However, if your water heater should "go", this basin will probably overflow since it only has about a 1-2 inch lip. Other hot water heaters that are located in a closest downstairs, if they should go, they would probably flood your rooms before you can do anything about it.

So, the Resident Purchasing Group will be calling in some Plumbers who can fix a problem before it may happen. On the market is a shutoff valve to the water coming into your hot water heater. Once a sensor, that is put in the bottom basin of the hot water heater, detects water, it sends a message to the shutoff valve to shut down the water coming into the hot water heater. Yes, you might get some residual effects of having, I believe, the 50 gallons of water in your hot water heater emptying, but if you are away, not only will the 50 gallons of water be a problem, but you will be getting hundreds of more gallons.
Naturally, depending upon the cost, we would like to know how many residents might be interested in having this sensor valve. If there is enough interest then our Resident Purchasing Group will explore it. So let me know.

THAT'S IT FOR NOW
RON
