RESIDENT COMMENTS ON - POLITICS, PERSONAL OPINIONS AND EMAILING

I have received many comments regarding my last email (about 75) that dealt with getting your opinions on the role of emailing, personal opinions and politics. I thank those of you who sent me your comments and have expressed your opinions. I was really touched by all the kind and wonderful comments each of you have stated in your emails. Even though four residents felt that my personal opinions, about certain issues, should not be included, one thing they all said was that the job I was doing helps make Regency what it is. I thank them for their comments dealing with the issue as well as my emailing job

Below are two of emails which I thought exemplify's why I did voice my opinion on the school referendum issue.

Dear Ron,

I just want to say I like hearing your opinion, especially since my wife and I are new to the area and sometimes feel we need a guiding hand. As long as you label something your opinion, we are all adults and can either listen or not. Just like we can turn off a radio station or a TV show, you have every right to your opinion. The last I heard we still live in a free country, although sometimes I begin to wonder.

Keep up the good work and I for one will be happy to listen to anything you have to say. Bottomline is that without you we would be in the dark about a lot of issues around here and subject to rumor and lots of wrong or incomplete information!!

Here is the other email:

As you wrote, "you can't please everyone". I think you should do just what you have been doing, informing all of the Regency, and sometimes, expressing your opinion.

I believe your readers are intelligent enough to take the info you provide, think it through and make their own decisions. Anyone who feels strongly about an opposite conclusion can write to you and ask you to share their view with the rest of us.

I appreciate the time you give to all of us as you write the e-mails. My husband and I have learned a lot about many things here at Regency, some serious and some just fun. I hope you continue to write and enjoy sharing your e-mails with the Regency. I think the Regency is fortunate to have someone who is willing to give so much to us. In the end, I think the saying,"To your own self be true" might be apt. Write and enjoy.

The final count is about 75 residents writing that I should continue writing and sometimes expressing my personal opinion. There were 4 that felt I should not express personal opinions. However, I have told everyone how much I appreciate their honesty and especially the 4 who were honest enough to tell me how they felt. These 4 individuals, who I know personally and who are close FRIENDS, I certainly appreciated their frankness and they know that issues like this will NEVER come between FRIENDS.

So, what will future emails deal with? It will continue to deal with all of those things it has dealt with in the past. When and if an issue comes up that might become controversial, well, I may or may not put my personal feelings into the issue. When I feel I have too, I will not hold back and this usually will happen if it's an issue that would adversely affect our community. I will be glad to include some other views from residents as some have suggested. If a resident runs for a position or office in the Township, I will support this individual because this person is FAMILY and I support all FAMILY members (unless 2 residents are looking to fill only one position, then I will be NEUTRAL).

Thanks again and thanks for all the nice things you have said about emailing and the EMAILER. It sort of reinforced the reasons why I love to do what I am doing. YOU ARE ALL TERRIFIC!

Ron
(Okay, now who will be running for the next school board elections? I want to make sure I spell your name(s) correct and of course, it will be in BIG BOLD TYPE. There I go again!)

HOME SECURITY SYSTEM

As I mentioned in some of my previous emails, our Resident Purchasing Club has approved ALARM RELAY as the company that residents might want to consider when renewing their contracts for your home security system.

However, whatever company you have for your home security, BEFORE going to ALARM RELAY, you MUST cancel your contract with your existing company. When the end of the term or date of your contract is reached, at that time you may switch. Otherwise your existing company can continue to bill you. For example, my contract ends at the end of next year. A letter has already been sent to my company telling them that I am cancelling my contract effective as of the end of my contract (end of next year). Once the end of my contract is reached, then I will switch to the new company.

If you wait, even 1 day past the end of your contract, most security companies will automatically renew your contract and then you are stuck for another year or two.

So far I haven't heard even one negative comment from residents who have switched. For those who did switch, let me know the pros and cons so that I can let others know.

RESIDENTS PURCHASING COMMITTEE

A meeting of the RESIDENTS PURCHASING COMMITTEE just finished and HOT off the press is some other good news. Many thanks to the subcommittee on Exterminators, Regency residents may select, if they want, one of the following Exterminators:

ARROW EXTERMINATORS - 800-701-2847
CAVANAUGH'S EXTERMINATORS - 800-362-2282

The price both companies are willing to provide residents is $285 a year. The standard service includes 3 service visits per year for the outside and inside (if requested), of our homes. What they will take care of includes almost everything except termite control.

I just looked at my contract for Cavanaugh's for last year and it was $370 for the same thing. Congratulations to Goodie Mollen and his "team" for saving us some $$ on our exterminating bills.

I will be receiving the official proposal of what is included but if anyone, like myself, needs to renew their exterminating contract, feel free to call the above recommended vendors and just mention that you are from Regency.

The next item that the GOODIE TEAMS will be looking at is POWERWASHING of our homes. If you know someone who does this type of work, send me a note. A subcommittee has also been formed to explore the reduction of costs related to our Heating and AirConditioning, both preventive maintenance and repairs. I thank you for sending me the names of vendors that you are recommending for the HVAC. Our committee will be exploring various options including repair service companies like American Home Shield and Garden State Heating and Cooling that many residents currently use.

Again, for next year, the committee will be reviewing vendors for the sealing of driveways. The committee discussed whether or not driveways should be sealed every year. It's up to you but some say it should be done every other year and to skip the first year that your driveway was installed.

In the meantime, the following link will include those vendors that are being recommended by residents. Once our committee gives it's approval of a particular vendor, you will see in the last column RECOMMENDED BY COMMITTEE. On my BLOG I hope to have all the pertinent information that is related to the recommendation.

THE WINDS AT REGENCY

WOW! The other night the winds at Regency must have been the strongest I have ever seen in all the years (6) that I have been living here. In fact it was so strong that 4 huge planter pots with about 3-4 foot shrubs (weighing at least 70 lbs) were knocked over onto my patio. Naturally (since it has happened every year), all of my furniture covers blew off and AWAY. I found 3 of out of 4 which were scattered in various neighbors backyards (Hogan, the even side). One is still missing in action. So if anyone finds a black, very large, cover for outdoor furniture, it might be your emailers, so give me a call. Thanks

PS - Ken Sussman told me what he has done to keep his outdoor furniture covers from blowing away. It's a simple type of hard plastic "alligator clip" that clips onto the bottom of the cover which has a hole in it for putting some rope into it and then you tie it down to the furniture. Like everything else, I didn't do it in time for the "big winds". However, I will now anchor each cover (4) to each other besides to the furniture under each cover. My rationale, it might be easier to find 4 covers then looking for each one separately. I used the bungy cords last year but this didn't work because the wind tunnel (which starts with my home), caused all the furniture to move.

Charlie & Barbara Lerman

(Note: Charlie has already started training Matthew to become a board member of the HOA. Once Matthew is elected he will be responsible for resident activities such as playing duck, duck, goose - which will be changed to duck, duck, geese, ring around the rosie - which will be changed to ring around the clubhouse, and the all time favorite, London Bridges - which will be changed to GOLF COURSE BRIDGES and hopefully they will not "all fall down". Our best wishes are sent to the Lerman's, Matthew Christopher and his parents.)

A MESSAGE ASKING FOR HELP

My mother, Agnes, who lives at 15 Kings Mill Rd in the Regency is having surgery on Monday December 17th. She is expecting to be at St Peters until Wednesday or Thursday. I would like to help by making sure my mom and her new husband Rich don’t have to worry about food. A small dinner for two where Rich only has to heat something up would be perfect. If people contact me directly, I can coordinate so only one person helps per day for 1 to 2 weeks (depending on the number of volunteers). I already have a volunteer for this Friday. My number is 732-613-1472 and cell 732-689-4742.

Thank you very much.
