POLITICS AND EMAILING

Now that the school board election is over, I apologize for my personal opinion about the school board bond issue. Yes, I wasn't NEUTRAL and I sort of got carried away but unfortunately sometimes my adrenaline starts flowing and my fingers keep typing what is on my mind.

One thing I learned a long time ago is that you can't please everyone. A misplaced word, a thoughtless remark which might be unintentional, a "taking sides" type of comment, etc. can make some people feel I have gone "too far". Naturally it is not my intent to become "political" but sometimes it happens. I could just write about all the wonderful shows we have, the trips that are planned, the sporting events, etc. but there are other things that might affect each and everyone of us which might stimulate some thinking as to what YOU might want to do.

Take for example the 48 and over issue. About 5% of the community thought I was wrong for sending out an email dealing with this issue and especially dealing with allowing our children, who might be under the age of 48 to live with us if, for whatever reason, they have to live with us. If I dropped this "political" issue we wouldn't have had over 100 Regency residents attending a Monroe Township meeting to voice our objections to the township in possibly putting restrictions on who could and who can't live here at Regency.

Then there is the problem of having a resident, or residents, running for some township position, like on the Fire Company or the school board. Do I not support our friends and neighbors? In the past I have supported, through the emails, all of Regency's candidates. Naturally if there were two residents running for one office, NEUTRALITY would be the way I would handle it and these residents would be on their own. Supporting one Regency candidate for one position did meet with a few emails saying that I shouldn't do this. Do I go with the few, or do I go with the masses who would support a Regency neighbor and friend? Yes, the easy way is not to do anything but sometimes I am requested to help and it seems natural to do so since this person would have the interests of Regency at heart. It is only natural that a person running from another community would have his/her community's interests at heart also. So let me know what you think YOUR emailer should do when things like this do happen. I will do whatever the MAJORITY of residents feel I should do no matter what my personal feelings are. Once I hear from you and if the response is NOT to do anything, I will let the community know and any candidates know that I cannot put anything out regarding their running for office based upon the consensus of opinion of Regency residents.

With the tax appeal issue, there are those who felt that dealing with this through an email wasn't right. Yet, 1000 residents from various communities joined the "battle". Would there have been a "battle" if this political issue wasn't being broadcasted via emailing? So for the few who might not agree that emailing should be used for these purposes, I guess I have to make decisions which would favor the majority. Please don't equate this to the school bond issue since I have no clue as to what the majority of residents favor. In reality I did voice my opinion but more importantly the message was, go out and vote, not only for a school bond referendum but to vote in general.

We formed a PAC (Political Action Committee). The original intent was for this committee to look over various political issues that might involve residents and for them to keep us informed. They might have stated that this politician or that politician is not the person we want in office because........ and this might have been a mistake when I published their opinions at that time. That will no longer be done. I have been asked many times to put out a note that one politician or another will be at someone's home - to some, this might be offensive.

Naturally the safest thing to do is NOT to do anything. Reminding people even about the date and time of the school board election, well this too might not be correct as I was told.
So, if there ever becomes another 48 and over type of issue that affects residents living in adult communities, do I or do I not get residents involved? If I didn't take a proactive stand, who knows what might have happened with the 48 and over issue. Remember you will always find someone who will be for or against whatever you believe in.

I am here to deal with communications between all of us, so let me know what you think I should or should not be doing when it comes to these types of issues. Please, I will not be offended in knowing that maybe I might be "overstepping" my emailer boundaries. Friends tell friends the truth and hearing what your true feelings are would never bother me because we will always be FRIENDS.

A NOTE OF THANKS FROM LAURA METZ

Thank you to all the wonderful residents of Regency who expressed their condolences and sympathy on the loss of my sister, Phyllis Staller. I was touched by the outpouring of love, caring and concern and so very sorry to hear that many of you had lost a sibling too.

Martin and I are thankful that we have moved into a community where we have made so many new friends to celebrate the good times with and who are so supportive and generous during the tough times.

Again, a heartfelt thank you.

A NOTE OF THANKS FROM ARLENE RUDIN

Dear Friends:
Like many situations in life, it's hard to truly appreciate others' experiences until you walk in the same shoes. I have heard how supportive and special the Regency Community is, but until so many wonderful people reached out to me upon the death of my beloved Jerry, I did not experience it. "Thank you" can not begin to express my gratitude - but I can not seem to find words adequate to describe how much I appreciate all wonderful expressions and support I have received from this community, so I must simply say thank you.

Arlene Rudin

SECURING YOUR GARBAGE

A few residents have indicated that either the recyclables and/or garbage pails are flying all over the place. With the gusts of wind we've had last week, I'm surprised our homes are still standing. It was incredible! So please, when you are putting out your garbage try to make it as secure as possible. If the paper recyclable container has no cover, please tie up the papers so that they don't fly around. Thanks
