WHO KNOWS! THE FACE YOU MIGHT FIND MIGHT BE YOURS!

CORRECTION FOR MY LAST EMAIL

The information dealing with the consecutive basketball shots had a typo error. Yes, 43 consecutive foul shots were made but it was made by HOWIE WACHS. I had Sachs and there is no Howie Sachs living at Regency.

NEW RECORD SET BY A REGENCY RESIDENT

For years, Al Maltzman, the "MALTED MAN" of Regency Basketball, held a record that everyone thought was unbeatable. Al, who is Regency's Sr. Olympic Basketball coach, has put together teams that have won medals every year and many were Gold and Silver. Just this week in practice, Al saw his record of getting in 26 CONSECUTIVE FOUL SHOTS BROKEN! Not only was the record broken but it reached a new plateau of probably never being duplicated. Howie (MR. BASKETBALL) Sacks was able to sink, are you ready, 43 CONSECUTIVE FOUL SHOTS. Keep in mind that in professional Basketball if you shoot 85-90% of your foul shots, you are considered great. So I have decided that by achieving this new record HOWIE WACHS will now be known as "SHOTGUN". So please give Howie the recognition he deserves and when you see him just say, "HELLO, SHOTGUN!"

LADIES, DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR SWIMSUIT IS?

Found a ladies swim suit and cap in the locker room. I left it at the front desk.

(Naturally the emailer has something to say about this. First, the I was sent to me by a woman. I very rarely use the ladies locker room. Second, did this person forget to put the swimsuit on before going to the pool? At Tilden, the men did swim without bathing suits but at Regency, we prefer to have all residents in proper bathing attire - rule 875.34. Last, I will fight as hard as I can to have that rule changed!

ANOTHER GREAT SHOW FROM THE MERCER COUNTY SYMPHONIC BAND

ABOUT 100 REGENCY RESIDENTS "STORMED" THE MERCER COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE - THE KELSEY THEATRE TO LISTEN TO THE MERCER COUNTY SYMPHONIC BAND. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MISSED THEIR PERFORMANCE AT REGENCY, YOU MISSED A GREAT SHOW.

I AM HAPPY TO SAY THAT TWO OF OUR REGENCY RESIDENTS PLAY IN THIS BAND.

BERNIE GHEE
MARIO LENCI

YOU DID A FABULOUS JOB AND THE EVENING PROVIDED US WITH GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. IN FACT, MORRIS ADLER GOT SO CARRIED AWAY THAT HE STARTING MARCHING TO SOME OF THE MARCHING SONGS YOUR BAND PLAYED. FORTUNATELY I WAS SEATED BEHIND HIM AND I TOLD HIM TO GET BACK IN HIS SEAT.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND LET US KNOW WHERE AND WHEN YOUR NEXT PERFORMANCE WILL BE.

The Bronx Club of The Regency of Monroe is looking for you.

Did you grow up in the Bronx, do you remember the fun you had as a child? Stickball, jack, queen, king, ring-o-levio, pottsie, scooters made out of crates and skates, bottle tops, playing basketball through the opening in the drop-down ladder of a fire escape? Fun stuff, when life was uncomplicated, and summers were forever? When going outside to play didn’t require a ‘play date’? We’d love to meet you, and explore our common memories, and friends we knew and would love to meet again. Everybody has a story and we would like to share yours.

Please call any of our board members below with your interest and we will contact you with our meeting dates. Looking forward to meeting and talking with you, and most of all doing some of the fun things from the past and even going back to some of our old haunts. I know we have a lot of Bronxites out there, so let’s hear from you soon.

President – Ted Shuster 732-656-1355
Vice President - Phyllis Greenberg 732-521-0701
Treasurer Alan Glassman 732-656-7669
Secretary Elaine Robbin 732-605-7960

(EMAILER'S NOTE: IT'S NICE TO SEE THE BRONX CLUB BONDING TOGETHER. WHEN YOU ARE BROUGHT UP IN BROOKLYN, WE JUST "KICK ___" AND SENDING THEM RUNNING TO THE BRONX. OKAY, IT IS TIME TO SHOW YOU THAT BROOKLYN IS #1. NATURALLY, WE HAVE AL (MALTED MAN) MALTZMAN (with one good arm) AND HOWIE (THE SHOTGUN) WACHS TO CHALLENGE YOU TO A BASKETBALL FOUL SHOOTING CONTEST. SINCE WE DON'T HAVE FIRE ESCAPES WE'LL USE A REAL BASKETBALL HOOP. AS FAR AS JACKS AND POTTSIE, IT FIGURES THAT YOU GUYS WOULD PLAY THAT GAME. IN BROOKLYN WE PLAYED "LAND" BUT WE USED SOMEONE FROM THE BRONX AS OUR TARGET. WE ALSO HAD OUR OIL CLOTH GUNS AND AS WE GOT OLDER WE TRADED IN THESE GUNS FOR THE REAL ONES.

WE PLAYED RING-O-LEVIO DIFFERENTLY. WE WOULD SEND OUT OUR BEST LIEUTENANTS TO CAPTURE A BRONXITE AND PUT HIM INTO A CARGO CRATE ON THE BROOKLYN DOCKS. NATURALLY THIS WAS ON BOARD A SHIP HEADED TO CHINA.

AS FAR AS THOSE SCOOTERS ARE CONCERNED, WE BUILT THEM DIFFERENTLY. WE WOULD STEAL AN ENGINE FROM A CAR. THEN STEAL FOUR TIRES FROM A CADILLAC. WE WOULD GO TO BRIGHTON BEACH AND STEAL SOMEONE'S SURFBOARD AND THEN MOUNT THE ENGINE AND THE TIRES ON IT. IF YOU BUILT A REAL GOOD SCOOTER YOU WOULD TAKE IT DOWN PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE TO SEE IF YOU COULD GO 100 mph WITHOUT FALLING OFF.

SO HERE'S THE CHALLENGE BROOKLYNITES ARE PRESENTING TO THE BRONXITES. PICK YOUR FAVORITE GAMES AND WE WILL CHALLENGE YOU. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOUR POTTSIE GAME, THAT'S FINE. WHOEVER WINS, THAT CLUB OR GANG (IN BROOKLYN WE CALL THEM GANGS) WILL HAVE THE BRAGGING RIGHTS AT REGENCY FOREVER AND THE BRONXITES WOULD HAVE TO SAY AT ONE OF OUR CLUBHOUSE PARTIES, "WE AREN'T AS GOOD AS THE BROOKLYNITES". IF WE LOSE WE WILL SAY, "THE BRONXITES CHEATED".)
