Real Estate Tax Appeal Update:

In an effort to show greater unanimity in purpose in getting a more equitable distribution of our property tax burden, the affiliated resident groups from Regency, Renaissance at Monroe and Encore have joined forces under the name “Concerned Citizens of Monroe Township”(CCMT). Since every group requires leadership, two representatives from Regency and two representatives from Renaissance, have volunteered to comprise a Steering Committee for the group. The members of the Steering Committee are:

John Keane and Jerry Krzyzkowski from Regency at Monroe
Frank Giubileo and Norm Rubenstein from Renaissance at Monroe

These are essentially the same individuals who have been intimately involved and instrumental in moving the process forward, to date, in each of the individual communities.

The establishment of the Steering Committee or the CCMT does not abrogate any committee, or group, but rather acts as the group that consolidates direction for the participating individuals as a whole.

For ease of operations the Steering Committee has recommended that a consolidated checking account be established to which all funds collected, net of paid expenses will be deposited and all future expenses will be paid. Payment of expenses from CCMT funds will require the authorization of no less than two members of the Steering Committee. All future communications concerning matters related to this effort will be coming jointly from the Steering Committee under the banner of “Concerned Citizens of Monroe Township” All communications with media should come from the Steering Committee and/or the CCMT’s attorneys. Homeowners participating in this action should refer any inquiries to the Steering Committee and or the CCMT attorney.

The above action was taken after meetings with our attorneys in developing a strategy to move forward to the next step of finalizing and filing our complaint in the appropriate court. At this meeting we went over the very significant efforts made by those residents of Regency, and their representatives, over the past 2+ years, in meetings with County and Township officials to request a revaluation of township property. This effort failed, which brings us to the action we’re about to take---- filing a complaint with a court of law.

Our attorneys advised us that filing a complaint listing all participants as plaintiffs has inherent problems that can cause significant difficulties and delays. For example, the proceedings of the action might require consultation with the plaintiffs and approval by the plaintiffs of a change in the complaint. With all participants named, all participants would have to be available to meet (in person, by telephone or mail) with the attorneys and concur or reject whatever is brought before them.

Can you imagine the difficulties if one of the plaintiffs dies, or others spend significant periods out of state at a winter home or on vacation, and they are not readably accessible to respond to the attorneys?

Secondly, if all participants are named, then new participants are precluded from joining the action. Since this action being brought is against officials of local and county offices, which are generally sensitive to the issues of masses of people, why should we preclude becoming more representative by limiting the number of participants?

For these two reasons the Steering Committee has accepted our attorneys’ recommendation to limit the number of plaintiffs to a manageable group that has no plans to be away from home for any extended period of time for the next few years. The members of the Steering Committee have volunteered to be the designated plaintiffs in the complaint. A current list of all eligible participants(1) has been provided to our attorneys so they are aware of all the participants who are entitled to participate in any settlement offered by the defendants to this matter. No settlement will be accepted without the inclusion of all eligible participants.

Now to get to the point that you have been waiting to hear. The CCMT attorney has informed us, that with the above administrative matters resolved, the complaint should be filed with the court within the next 2 business days.

We will keep you informed as to the progress of this action.

We thank you for your past support and cooperation and ask that you continue to offer moral support to this action as we now move forward.

Respectfully,
Your Steering Committee
Eligible participant is the owner(s) of a residence in Monroe Township in agreement with the objective of the CCMT and who have made a financial contribution, equal in amount made by all other participants, to defray the costs of this action.

IF YOU HAVEN'T GIVEN ME YOUR BIRTHDAY AND/OR ANNIVERSARY AS YET, PLEASE SEND ME A NOTE. THE FULL LIST CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG

YOU SOLVE ONE PROBLEM AND YOU GET ANOTHER

With my new way of sending out emails, AOL problems are GONE FOREVER! The company that I use sends out hundreds of thousands of emails at one time. AOL put them on their white list which means that this company has been given the okay by AOL to send out all of these emails.

However, Advanced Broadband hasn't put IntelliContact on their white list because IntelliContact never applied. Why? IntelliContact never heard of Advanced Broadband. So, MANY residents haven't received my emails especially if you are using either ADVANCEDBROADBAND.COM or REGENCYATMONROEGC.COM.

I thought there might be a problem because I am now tracking all emails and when I send out 400+ only about half are being opened. Now I know when you see my emails coming you just don't throw them away (or do you?). The emails are going to Advanced Broadband and are being accepted but AB is filtering out my emails because too many of them are sent out at the same time. This triggers their filters which think that SPAM is being sent. So the problem I had with AOL is now happening with AB.

We live in an era of technology and when companies try to take control of what they feel is in the best interests of themselves, then things get totally out of control. SPAM is a problem but FILTERING is more of a problem than SPAM. Legitimate emails, WITHOUT your knowledge are being blocked from coming to you and from you sending them out. You will never know it unless the other party questions you about what happened to the emails you were sending. This is serious stuff since businesses that depend upon emails are possibly losing business because email companies are filtering out messages.

My suggestion to ALL is to call whatever company you use and ask them NOT to filter your emails, you want everything! Yes, you will get plenty of SPAM and some of those emails that are totally obscene, but you might pick up some emails that were filtered out that you really might have wanted. Remember, you have to call both your incoming and outgoing providers if you use two different providers. For example, my incoming email provider is MONMOUTH.COM and my outgoing provider is VERIZON.NET. If you use AB for incoming and outgoing, then you just have to call AB.

As a personal example, when I found out that some of my emails were being filtered, I called MONMOUTH.COM and told them to unfilter my emails. As soon as it was done, MANY of my EBAY customers were able to send me emails that I wasn't able to get in the past. I would be able to send my message out if they asked a question but if I never received their emails then no response could be given and you lose customers because they feel you aren't responding.

This entire issue of filtering emails in my opinion is like stealing mail. They get away with it because, surprisingly enough, no Federal agency oversees these companies. After filing a complaint with the FCC, FTC, their response was, we don't handle the problem and maybe your State Consumer's Protection Agency might. If anyone knows, who to contact, please let me know because this problem is growing like a virus and there is no stopping these companies from controlling the internet as they see fit. AOL's Postmaster is non-existent. You write them, they don't write back. Their customer service says they get LOTS of calls about this problem but they just pass it on to the Postmaster. You file forms and documents to get you on their "white" list and they ignore it. You go to the internet and you read all the horror stories about this problem. Yet, no governmental agency has taken control and just the other day I noticed that MONMOUTH.COM implemented more filtering.

Remember, if you don't receive at least one email in one week, you have been FILTERED. I am working with AB and IntelliContact to put us back on the emailing system. IntelliContact will apply for the white list and AB has told me that they will take me off of the filtering. However, AB (Vernon) said that he will call me when it has been taken care of. Vernon hasn't called as yet. I think Comcast will be here sooner than Vernon calling me!

(GOOD NEWS, I HOPE - ADVANCED BROADBAND HAS TOLD ME THAT I AM NOW ON THEIR "WHITE LIST". HOPEFULLY EVERYONE WILL NOW BE ABLE TO READ MY EMAILS. TO MAKE SURE, THOSE OF YOU WHO CALLED OR EMAILED ME LIKE BERNIE, ISABEL, VIVIENNE, ETC. PLEASE SEND ME A NOTE THAT THIS EMAIL WAS RECEIVED)

In accordance with legislation, the state wide Yom HaShoah (Holocaust) Commemoration program will be held on April 15, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the Monroe Township High School Auditorium (located on Perrineville Road in Monroe Township). The New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education in coordination with The Henry Ricklis Holocaust Memorial Committee and The Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County have joined together to remember and honor the victims of the Holocaust. The public is invited to share in these observances. Ricklis President Jay Brown, and Nina Wolff, chair of the Yom HaShoah Observance, along with their committee, worked closely with Dr. Paul B. Winkler and Ruth Respler of the State Holocaust Commission to organize this memorial observance. Philip Kirschner, Chair of the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education will be the Master of Ceremonies.

The Keynote Speaker will be Helen Rosenzweig, a Holocaust survivor and Monroe Township resident. At the age of 14, Helen was forced to serve as a housemaid for the infamous Camp Commandant Amon Goeth. Featured in the film “Schindler’s List,” Helen will speak about Goeth and relate how she met Oskar Shindler in Goeth’s villa and how he eventually saved her life.
Governor Jon Corzine and Mayor Richard Pucci will present proclamations naming April as Holocaust Remembrance Month and the Temple Beth Shalom Choir of Manalapan, New Jersey, under the direction of Cantor Ruth Katz Green will sing two commemorative pieces. The program will open with a new dramatic original work named Cadence and the moving and touching Menorah Lighting ceremony will also be presented this year. Author and survivor Judith Sherman will read an original poem and Survivor Carl Lustbader will pay tribute to the Six Million by singing "The Partisan Song." Carl has regarded this as his solemn pledge and obligation throughout these many years.

Memorial candles may be kindled from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will cease when the program starts. Admission is free.
