HAPPY NEW YEAR!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

WELL, WE BEGIN A NEW YEAR AND THE EMAILER AND HIS WONDERFUL WIFE, WISH THE ENTIRE REGENCY COMMUNITY ONCE AGAIN, GOOD HEALTH, MUCH HAPPINESS FOR THE COMING YEAR.

NOW THAT WE ARE ALL DONE PARTYING, WHEN'S THE NEXT PARTY? REGENCY'S PARTY'S NEVER END AND THIS COMING YEAR WOULD PROVE THAT WE WILL HAVE LOTS OF PARTIES AND LOTS OF GOOD FUN.

GRETA AND I DIDN'T ATTEND THIS YEAR'S NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY, HOWEVER WE HEARD IT WAS A TOTAL SUCCESS AND IT WAS ENJOYED BY ALL. THERE PROBABLY WERE A FEW PHOTOGRAPHERS PRESENT, SO SEND ME THE PICTURES AND IT WILL BE SENT OUT TO THE COMMUNITY.

LET'S PLAY THE HIGH SCHOOL GAME!

So you think you can pick the name of a celebrity or star by seeing this person's High School picture. Well let's see how many you can guess correctly. On my BLOG, the scrolling pictures will show pictures of people you definitely know (sorry no Regency residents are included). However, you probably know what they look like today but can you NAME THAT STAR by seeing the star's High School picture?

I'm going to give one Regency resident a clue, one of the stars real name was MARION MITCHELL MORRISON, who went to Glendale Union HS in California and graduated in 1925. He played varsity football (not his profession later in life) and was Jr. & Sr. Class President. Unfortunately he passed away many years ago.

Normally you would see the name under the pictures but I deleted the names to be fair. Why? Because the first person to email me with the highest number of accurate answers will WIN a COMPLETE set of SERIES 1 AND SERIES 2 of HIGH SCHOOL HEROES. So if the most correct responses is 12, that person wins. If there are ties, the first person sending in their response will be the winner. So go to the BLOG http://regencyemailer2.blogspot.com/ and play NAME THAT STAR!

My next email will show all the names of the stars along with the winner. Now, if enough of you give me your High School pictures I would be happy to have them scrolling across my BLOG and we could have residents guessing who this REGENCY star is.

By the way, if you need a clue as to who the star is just put your mouse arrow on the picture

P.S. The High School list keeps growing and growing. Check it out on the BLOG. If you haven't given me your High School as yet, send me an email and let me know (rpost@monmouth.com).

EMAILING PROBLEMS MIGHT BE A THING OF THE PAST

The other day I was contacted by a Regency resident who informed me of a service that I could possibly use in sending out emails. I will be exploring this service to see if it could be adapted to my emailing.

Today, with companies like AOL blocking emails, for people like myself who send out currently about 400 emails to Regency residents, headaches are constant. In speaking with AOL and Verizon, they say that 50 emails at one time is permissible but both suggest sending about 25 emails at one time. Well, once I have 1200 email addresses, that would mean I would have to send out the same email 48 times. I love Regency but this would be a difficult thing to do.

A company called Constant Contact would send out all of my emails in one shot vs. 48 times. My headache is gone!! If it works, what does this mean? First off, I get many emails asking me to send things out IMMEDIATELY. Right now, immediate might mean that it would be sent out once I have accumulated enough information. You see, right now I have about 14 email boxes because of the AOL problem. Eight of the 14 boxes requires me to send out 25 emails in an hour. So it could take up to 5 hours to send out these emails. So if Constant Contact works, sending out 400 emails should be like sending out 1 email. If this is the case, then time sensitive emails could be sent out IMMEDIATELY.

I will spend about 2 weeks in the testing stages and some of you (many AOL residents) will be getting a TEST email. Please just respond that you received it. This way I would know if this system works. For the emailer's sake, I do hope it works. If not, back to the drawing board since I am not looking forward to sending out my messages 48 separate times.

EMAIL ADDRESSES

During the next few months my fingertips are going to become numb again in your having to switch your AdvancedBroadband email address to something else. You have many choices including using website emailing like YAHOO or HOTMAIL. These are free services and they can be upgraded if you need more capacity in you email account.

In reading Alan Brisken's article in the Regency Reporter, I totally concur that you basically have very little choice but to sign up with Verizon DSL as your ISP once AB is gone. I've been asked the question many times, when should I sign up and how difficult is it to install. My only suggestion is not to wait until the last minute. It does take time for Verizon to send you the CD, Modem, filters, etc. They also have to do something outside to make DSL available in your home. Naturally, right now you are getting the service via AB and your monthly maintenance covers that cost. So if you sign up, let's say today, you will start paying Verizon, their monthly fee and you your monthly fee includes AB, so it's like paying twice for the same service. I have had DSL for a few years (and I am completely satisfied with it's service). In my opinion, it was stated that Comcast would be here in Regency in 5 months, so sometime in March, start thinking about changing your ISP (Internet Provider). You have basically 2 choices, Comcast and Verizon. Comcast is definitely more expensive and Verizon, their basic service, is probably the best bet for the majority of residents. I have their 3 MB only because I need the faster upload speed to upload information to the internet. Most of you don't need something like this. The download speeds are significantly faster using DSL basic vs. AB basic.

If you aren't computer oriented and you get this box of "goodies" from Verizon and have no clue what to do with any of it, well you might have to ask a neighbor or friend to help you. I had some problems doing mine and I think I know something about computers. The problem is basically the jumble of wires we all have behind our computers and making sense of all of them. With my system having modems, hubs, routers, cameras, wireless remotes, external hard drives, etc. it took some time to find some of the connections even though I knew where the DSL had to go. If you don't succeed at first, well there is always the yellow pages.

Just remember to send me your new email address when you are all done. Keep in mind that as a Verizon customer if you choose their DSL, they also will provide you with an email address.

NEW FEATURE ON MY BLOG
http://regencyemailer2.blogspot.com/ (not clickable)

As I have done in the past, I have created two telephone directory's in Excel Format. You can manipulate the data anyway you want if you have Excel. If you don't have Excel you can print out the Telephone Directory either in LAST NAME format or as some residents want, by STREET and who lives on each street.

Even though the telephone directory that was given to us the last time is in a book format, it looks as if it is in public domain, I have decided to password protect our street addresses and telephone numbers and the only people that would be able to see both of these directory's on my BLOG is you, the residents of Regency and nobody else. This email, which is sent to you, the residents, will have the password that would be required to OPEN the files located on the left hand side of the BLOG. Even though I share our emails with Encore, this password will not be given to the Emailer of Encore (sorry Larry). The password is:

Make sure you don't use capitals. When you click on the small print under the TELEPHONE DIRECTORY it will ask you to OPEN the file. Then give the password and click OK and the file will open. You will be able to make any changes to this directory. Any problems, let me know. If you forget the password, just let me know (provided I don't forget it either).

CENTRAL HUMIDIFIERS

At least once a year I write about the use of Central Humidifiers. My personal opinion is that they should all be BANNED from the market. How come? Well, with my wife Greta having her 14th operation on her sinuses just about 2 weeks ago, I have become an "expert" in the field.

Greta has seen at least 6 different physicians regarding chronic sinus infections that she has had since the age of 16. Two physicians are considered "world famous" in the area of ear, nose and throat. One physician at the University of Pennsylvania took care of the Presidents of the US at one time. Just to see him required a personal letter and telephone call from a physician in NYC.

So when the topic of humidification of a home came up, all 6+ physicians were in total agreement, DO NOT USE CENTRAL HUMIDIFIERS. Let me just give you my personal account why you would probably run and turn it off immediately (again this is your decision). When we were told not to use a central humidifier I had an AC person come to my other home and take it off the ductwork. I should have taken a picture of what was behind the humidifier and into the ductwork. From white to black to green and so on, this was what was found inside the duct. No question at all in my mind that fungus and mold growth was present, even without a culture. You see, your humidifier puts droplets of water into your ducts and the blower then blows it throughout your home. However at the point of entry, water clings to the ductwork and the environment with the moisture and heat is a breeding ground for mold and fungus.

You are usually able to clean the central humidifier, change filters, etc. but to get into the ductwork is almost impossible especially 5-10 feet from the point of where the humidifier is attached.

So you might ask what was the suggestion of these surgeons. The answer was clear. You DO NOT need to humidify an entire home. Even in the dry winter months there is enough moisture to suffice in rooms like a kitchen, family room, living room, hallways, etc. The room that might require humidification is where you spend most of your time - the bedroom. So they said, just purchase a simple ultrasonic cool air humidifier that you can clean easily after each use.

The Mayo Clinic doesn't mention anything about what I just wrote about but they do mention that ALL types of humidifiers should be cleaned thoroughly. That's sort of a catch 22 since you can't get behind a central humidifier. Here's what they have to say about the problem or how to take care of the problem. Again, it's your choice of what to do:

Humidifiers: Vital steps for cleaning

Humidifiers need regular maintenance, including daily water changes and frequent cleaning. Get more tips to ensure your humidifier doesn't become a household health hazard.

Humidifiers can provide relief from the annoying effects of dry winter air, such as dry skin and chapped lips. Humidifiers may also be soothing for people who have asthma flare-ups because of dry indoor air. But whatever the reason for using humidifiers, it's essential to properly maintain and clean them. Dirty humidifiers can create more problems than they solve.

Portable humidifiers

To keep portable or desktop humidifiers free of harmful mold, fungi and bacteria, be sure to follow the guidelines recommended by the manufacturer. These tips for portable humidifiers can also help:
Fill humidifiers with distilled or demineralized water. Tap water contains minerals that can create bacteria-friendly deposits on the humidifier. When released into the air, these minerals often appear as white dust on your furniture. You may also breathe in some minerals that are dispersed into the air. In addition, use demineralization cartridges or filters if recommended by the manufacturer.
Change humidifier water every day. Don't allow film or deposits to develop inside your humidifiers. Empty the tanks, dry the inside surfaces and refill with clean water every day.
Clean humidifiers every three days. Unplug the humidifier before you clean it. Remove any scale, deposits or film from the tank or other parts of the humidifier with a 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution, which is available at pharmacies. Some manufacturers recommend using chlorine bleach or other disinfectants. Check your humidifier's instructions. Always rinse the tank after cleaning to keep harmful chemicals from becoming airborne and then inhaled. Even if you plan to toss out your humidifier at the end of the dry winter season, it still needs frequent cleaning in the meantime.
Change humidifier filters regularly. If the humidifier has a filter, change it at least as often as the manufacturer recommends and more often if it's dirty.
Check humidifier humidity settings. Be sure your humidifier's humidity level is set between 30 percent and 50 percent. Humidity higher than 50 percent can promote the growth of dust mites, mold, fungi and bacteria. Some humidifiers have a built-in humidistat that shows the humidity level. If yours doesn't, consider buying a hygrometer to measure the humidity level. Hygrometers are typically available at hardware stores.
Keep the area around humidifiers dry. If the area around a humidifier becomes damp or wet including windows, carpeting, drapes or table cloths turn the humidifier down or reduce how frequently you use it.
Prep humidifiers for storage. Drain and clean humidifiers before storing them. And then clean them again when you take them out of storage for use.
Console and central humidifiers

If you have a console humidifier one that's built into a cabinet follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and maintenance. If you have a central humidifier one that's built into your central heating and cooling system ask your heating and cooling specialist about proper maintenance.

Keep extra supplies on hand if your system requires disposable filters or special sanitizing solutions. If the humidifier contains a tank, keep the water clean. Finally, be sure to have console or central humidifiers inspected regularly.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ETTA AND EDDIE LEVINE

We're delighted to announce that our twin grand babies were born
December 12 - a month ahead of schedule - but are now home and cute
as can be. Dina weighed in at a whopping 4 lbs 4 oz and Daniel at 5
lbs 11 oz.

Mom Andrea, Dad Ben, and big sisters Rebecca, 6, and Samara, 3, are
thrilled with their two new "dolls."

Our other grandchildren - Avi, 11, Jake, 8, and Noah, 3 - are glad
that the boys still outnumber the girls in the family!

A THANK YOU FROM THE SCHINDLER'S

Dear Regency Friends,

Henry and I would like to thank you all for the genuine kindness and support that you provided to me during my recent hip surgery, and the ongoing recovery period. Your warm wishes have certainly helped make a tough time easier. For those of you who were with me on the Memphis trip, thanks for "literally standing by me" until medical help arrived, and your offers of help to Henry. It certainly made it a trip I'll long remember.

Again, thank you all for your friendship and warm wishes.

Fondly,
Judy Schindler
