Sometimes my desire to help out fellow residents gets between my emotional status and reality. The idea I had was not something that just "popped" into my head. I was talking to a friend from another adult community and the conversation came up where this community promotes the use of it's residents in selling items that residents might save money on. Why not? After all would you charge a friend the same price you would charge a stranger?
In discussing this with some rational men one night, one person said that it could not be done in Regency. The HOA prevents someone from advertising within Regency. This wasn't the reason that I decided not to do it. The HOA knows that emailing is NOT HOA controlled. However, I do try to abide by the "rules". When you signed up for emailing, this is PRIVATE and no rules are involved. If you wanted to send an email to a friend saying that you just saved $1000 by buying your car from XYZ Company, you can do it and so can I. However, I won't because if I do it and something goes wrong, then I can become liable for recommending. So the easiest thing to do is just say, by "word of mouth" tell your friends and neighbors about any cost savings you can offer for your goods or services.

Carol & Bill Langer are excited at the birth of their 6th grandchild, Lillian Dawn, She was born at 1:00AM on Dec. 15th, 10 minutes after her mom arrived at the hospital. Lillian, her brother, sisters and her parents Mark & Anne are all thrilled and doing well.

What a great place to live! The Regency Community certainly is unique. A resident had a problem in wanting to know a number to call to prevent telemarketers from contacting her so the emails kept "pouring" in. My fingers are numb from typing thank you's. Below you will find the information and I know we can all count upon each other.
HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM?
A Regency resident wrote this email to me. If anyone else has had the problem please let me know so that I might contact the appropriate party's to look into it:
I wanted to pass this along to you to put out to the community to see if anyone else has had a similar occurrence. I was sitting using the computer which faces the window when I noticed a van come around the corner at a rather high rate of speed almost on the wrong side of the road. A short time later I went into the garage and noticed that both garage doors were wide open.
Sometimes that happens with a power interruption, but the lights in the house remained on the whole time and all the clocks were set properly so there was no apparent power outage.
I am not sure what opened the garage doors and it may be purely coincidental with the van and all. However, I know that there are electronic devices that will search through codes and open doors.
I would be interested if anyone else experienced something similar. Might be good to put out a heads up to the community that these sort of things can happen and to make sure that if someone is going to be away even for a few days to make sure the lock provision on the opener is engaged.

How to Stop Junk Mail
The Direct Marketing Association sponsors two free services for those who wish to decrease the amount of national commercial mail and phone calls they receive at home: Mail Preference Service (MPS) and Telephone Preference Service (TPS). Most of the nation's largest companies are members of this trade association, which helps them market their goods and services to consumers all over the country. As a registrant of either MPS or TPS, the consumer's name and address will be placed on a name removal file: This "delete" file is made available to business subscribers four times a year- January, April, July, and October. For a limited time, no direct mail or phone calls will be made from them, or from other companies that may rent the lists from these subscribers.
Five years after, however, consumers must register their names again if they want to remain off these lists. Name removal through MPS and TPS is general; specific lists cannot be processed upon request. Consumers who register their name will continue to receive mail and/or telephone calls from companies they do business with on a regular basis, and from commercial organizations which do not subscribe to DMA. In addition, TPS will not affect sequentially dialed automated recorded message player (computerized) calls. So while registering your name will not prevent direct mail solicitation from every company, you should detect a significant decrease in the amount of commercial mail and/or the number of calls you receive.
The process begins to take into effect typically three months after registrants are entered into these systems. To register with either MPS or TPS or both, the consumer should include her/his name, address, and telephone number (with area code) in a letter requesting name removal. Consumers must register with MPS and/or TPS directly; second party requests cannot be processed.

In case registrants continue to receive unwanted mail solicitations and/or phone calls, they should contact the individual companies for name removal. If a company does not comply with your request, file a complaint with the BBB. When you name is registered with MPS, you will receive a postcard confirming receipt of your request. an article written by a lawyer on protecting your privacy and about scams promising "free" things, he gives the Direct Marketing Assocation phone number. It is 212-768-7277 or 202-955-5030.
He states that the DMA represents many telemarkets and they will take your name and number off the lists that their members use. The news channel also said to call your long distance provider and ask them to take your number off the direct marketing access lists.
SPORTS, GAMES AND ACTIVITIES - JOIN THE FUN!!

Who knows, one day we might find another Dear Abbey (or is it Abby?) or a Jimmy Breslin moving into Regency.
DID I HEAR RIGHT?
Is Tilden High School closing it's doors? I also heard that Lafayette HS is also closing down. When I went to Tilden I had many fond memories. My older brothers went there when Sam Levinson was teaching and they told me many stories. We once had a Jefferson HS reunion here at Regency but they refused to invite any Tildenites since we demolished Jeff at football on Thanksgiving Day. Naturally we had the high school football sensation, Ronnie Blye who just "mowed" down all those Jefferson players.
Everytime I go to some party the question comes up as to which High School did you go to and when. So, it's time to find out. Send me an email letting me know the High School and year you graduated and it will be put on my Blog. Who knows, maybe someone living here went to your High School and graduated with you and you just don't know that they are living here.
Here's a funny story but all names will be kept private. Some woman living here at Regency said that she remembered a Greta in High School who went to Sheepshead. However she remembered Greta's maiden name and when we told her, she came over with the yearbook and showed Greta what she wrote in the year book next to her name. It said, "good luck with XX (her boyfriend), I hope things work out". Guess what, she married her boyfriend and they now live in Regency. What a small world. So send me info about your High School and when you graduated. For ladies, give me your Maiden names so that others might remember.
