REGENCY TAKES THE SILVER IN THE SENIOR BASKETBALL OLYMPICS

Congratulations to Al Maltzman (coach) and his team on taking the silver medal in this year's Senior Basketball Olympics. Al, who wasn't able to play this year, due to shoulder surgery, stood on the sidelines and gave his team the encouragement they needed to win the silver. This year's team consisted of the following 5 players:

BARRY KLEINMAN
BOB SHUMSKY
CHARLIE LERMAN
RON MILLER
HOWIE WACHS
ALAN WOLFF - ALTERNATE
JERRY LUBETZKI - ALTERNATE

ALAN MALTZMAN - ALTERNATE (INJURED RESERVE)

It was an exciting tournament and our team really did a great job. We also thank Linda Ehrlich for serving as one of the referees and refusing to take a bribe.

REGENCY TAKES THE GOLD MEDAL IN THE
SENIOR BOWLING OLYMPICS

Our new coach, Herb Cohen who took over the reins of the bowling team from Norm Goldberg (who is Norm Goldberg?), he and his Regency team just won the GOLD medal in the Senior Basketball Olympics. Naturally Herb's guidance, instruction, personalized training has paid off. Who's Norm Goldberg? Oh, now I remember, he's the guy who started Regency bowling and he lived behind me. However, he and his lovely wife Seena, moved South (Florida) because he heard that with his bowling average, he might be able to be a "cheerleader" on his communities team. Imagine, my neighbor, my friend, not putting me on the bowling team. Big deal, so I averaged about 102. It's not winning or losing, it's how you play the game - I cheat!! Between my cheating and Stu Finger bowling a 305 (yes he did, I heard the announcement), Regency's team would have been in the gold every single year. So instead he made me the number 1 cheerleader and my job was to wave the pom pom's when each bowler got a strike. I really didn't mind doing it but he insisted that I wear a short skirt in order to look more like a cheerleader.

Congratulations to the following players on our Bowling Team:

JOE TRANCHINA
ED FRANKEL
CHARLIE LERMAN
ARNIE BASS
STEVE GELWARG
GARY SENACK
JEFF THALLER
MARK KLEIN
HERB COHEN
KATHY NICITA
CHRIS BARONE

BERNIE SACHAROFF - ALTERNATE

MARTY KORNFELD GETS A HOLE IN ONE

MARTY WAS PLAYING GOLF WITH HIS WIFE ROZ AND LARRY AND LINDA EHRLICH. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MARTY TO TELL ME THAT HE GOT A HOLE IN ONE AT BUNKER HILL GOLF COURSE. I THOUGHT I HAD A BAD CONNECTION SINCE ROZ WAS MORE LIKELY TO GET THE HOLE IN ONE THEN MARTY.

MARTY HIT THE FLAG POLE ON A FLY AND THE BALL DROPPED STRAIGHT DOWN INTO THE CUP. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED BUNKER HILL TO FIND OUT IF HIS BALL BENT THE FLAG POLE AND IF IT DID I TOLD THEM THAT MARTY DID IT AND HE SHOULD PAY FOR IT BEING REPAIRED.

I ALSO ASKED IF THEY CHECKED THE BALL HE WAS PLAYING WITH. AS MARTY KNOWS AND HE DID IT TO ME, HE PLAYS WITH TRICK BALLS THAT EXPLODE WITH CONFETTI AND DO OTHER CRAZY THINGS. I THOUGHT THAT THIS BALL MIGHT HAVE A MAGNET IMBEDDED IN THE BALL TO TRACK DOWN THE STEEL CUP AND PULL THE BALL TO THE CUP.

I'M STILL IN DISBELIEF BUT THREE OTHER GOLFERS IN THE BACKGROUND OF THE TELEPHONE CALL WERE SCREAMING, "HIP, HIP, HORRAY FOR MARTY"! IMAGINE IF HE DOES IT AGAIN, THEY MIGHT BE SCREAMING, "MARTY, YOUR THE GREATEST" (GUESS WHAT, BUT DON'T LET HIM KNOW I SAID IT - MARTY IS THE GREATEST - I ENJOY HIS COMPANY AND I ENJOY PLAYING GOLF WITH HIM)

OK, I'LL GIVE IN, CONGRATULATIONS MARTY ON ACHIEVING YOUR FIRST HOLE IN ONE. YOU WILL NOW GO DOWN ON MY BLOG AS A MEMBER OF THE HOLE IN ONE CLUB. BY THE WAY, IF ANYONE ELSE HAS GOTTEN A HOLE IN ONE EITHER HERE AT REGENCY OR ELSEWHERE, LET ME KNOW SO THAT YOU WILL JOIN THE HOLE IN ONE CLUB.

SCROLL DOWN TO BOTTOM (IT WILL BE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY BLOG)

I just received a confirmation email from Larry Ehrlich who played with Marty and this is his account of the tremendous accomplished achieved by our Men's Club President:

MARTY KORNFELD GETS HOLE IN ONE
AT BUNKER HILL!!!!!!!!!

It was a most exciting day for Marty, our president. We approached hole 15 and Marty goes to tee off and hits the ball 133 yards. I watched as the ball hit the flag and disappeared. Thinking the ball flew off the green, Linda and Larry Ehrlich and Roz (Marty's very supportive wife) cannot find the ball anywhere. All of a sudden Marty starts screaming, HOLE IN ONE!!! HOLE IN ONE!!! The ball is in the hole. We had to sit on him to calm him down and then take his pulse. Everyone passing thought we attacked him. He called the rangers over to tell them. Everyone was congratulating him. When we finished and got to my car, Linda had to give him the Regency phone directory he then called everyone in the book. If you didn't get a phone call from Marty have patience he will call you. Anyway, we were all very happy for Marty, however we will never live it down. We were very happy to be able to witness the exciting event. MARTY, we are very proud of you.

LARRY EHRLICH

I have to ask Marty one question, would he rather get a hole in one or win the $50 prize in our Wednesday tournament? This week, winning the closest to the pin on hole #2 was none other then the guy named Ron Post (17'10" from the pin). Now, I'd rather take the $50 (Seymour pay up) and I could always tell people that I got a hole in one 7 different times. So this would be a win win situation for me vs. Marty who just gets one win. Marty, I can't understand why Larry and I keep picking on you all the time! But, like I said, we love you!

FLYERS FROM GAIL - OUR LIFESTYLE DIRECTOR

(EMAILER'S NOTE: SOMETIMES WE ARE REMISS IN NOT TELLING PEOPLE WHEN THEY DO A SUPER JOB. I THINK REGENCY RESIDENTS ARE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE GAIL AS OUR LIFESTYLE DIRECTOR. HER POSITION AND THE WAY SHE HANDLES IT, BESIDES HER WONDERFUL PERSONALITY, SHOULD BE THE MODEL FOR THIS POSITION IN ALL ADULT COMMUNITIES. THIS IS NOT ONLY COMING FROM ME, BUT FROM THE MANY RESIDENTS WHO HAVE SPOKEN TO ME ABOUT THE FINE JOB SHE IS DOING. WE HAVE GONE A LONG WAY FOR THOSE OF US WHO REMEMBER WHEN WE FIRST STARTED)

CONGRATULATIONS TO CAROL AND STEVE HERMAN

Steve and Carol Herman arrived in Tigard, Oregon, just a few hours before their 5th grandchild arrived. Adeline (Addie) Faith Herman is the second daughter for Lawrence and Jenny Herman and little sister to Lillian (Lily) Audrey Herman. Born Monday, July 2, 2007, 6 pounds 2 oz.

(Emailer's Note: Greta and I knew Lawrence when he was in diapers and I just can't believe how this kid, in diapers, is now the father of 2 girls. What am I taking about - my children have given us 4 grandchildren, so they too have gone from diapers to being parents. Where's my Valium?)

THAT'S IT FOR NOW
