A DRIVE - A COMPANY I USE FOR UPLOADS AND STORAGE OF VARIOUS FILES

As many of you know, storage of files such as flyers (PDF), music (MP3), video (MPEG), Microsoft Word have been stored online by various company's that I have used, such as Zoomshare and A DRIVE. It seems like any company giving something for nothing has it's problems. As much as I thought A DRIVE was a very good company, residents have told me that clicking on some of my linkssometimes the files don't open. I have an email in to A DRIVE to find out what is going on and how to solve the problem.

I just received a note from A DRIVE regarding the problem. This is what they wrote:

We are having a temporary problem with some users and their logins. We will have this fixed shortly and full access to your files will be restored. We have resolved most of the public file urls for most users. Can you please retest and let us know which ones are not working?

I apologize for this inconvenience

So, with your help please do me a favor, click on this music link and see if the file opens. There is another link under the message about Smoke Detectors below. If one, or both of these links don't work, please let me know. Links are a valuable aid in sending out emails. Flyers, music, video's, long messages require links and I have to find a company that provides reliability and the only way of knowing is if you let me know.

SHOWER DOOR CONTINUED

A resident sent me the following:

Re the advice to drill a hole for screws at bottom of shower door to secure the inside lip---do not, I repeat, do not attempt to drill holes into the door. The shower door glass sometime sits low in the frame. Drilling will cause the whole glass to shatter and come showering down (no pun intended). I speak from experience!

(Emailer's Note: I guess if this happens you now have one of those fancy doors, glassless, rimless, doorless, door and you save yourself a few thousand dollars.)

IF YOUR SMOKE DETECTOR/CO2 DETECTOR KEEPS BEEPING AFTER YOU REPLACE THE BATTERIES - FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS

I called the manufacturer and spoke to tech support. If you get a low battery beep, it means that the battery in that detector has to be replaced. I told him that I replaced the battery and it continued to beep. He said that these detectors have a reset and test cycle that they automatically run every few hours. it seems that this detector had a "electronic" bug or small piece of dust that may have caused the problem.
He told me to do the following:
1. Remove the battery
2. Disconnect the power plug from behind the detector.
3. Push the button on the face of the detector for 20 seconds. This will reset the detector.
4. Re-install the plug and battery.

SUCCESS!
(Thanks for the info. The community will benefit from this residents solution to a beeping detector that doesn't want to stop beeping.) For such a noble and altruistic gesture, I am dedicating this song to this resident:

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU ARE HAVING A HEART ATTACK

I send this important reminder out periodically since the health of all residents is everyone's concern:

The Johnson City Medical Center staff actually discovered this and did an in-depth study on it in our ICU The two individuals that discovered this then did an article on it .. had it published and have even had it incorporated into ACLS and CPR classes.

It is very true and has and does work. It is called cough CPR. A cardiologist says it's the truth.

Read This...It could save your life! Let's say it's 6:15 p.m. and you're driving home (alone of course), after an usually hard day on the job. You're really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to radiate out into

your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you don't know if you'll be able to make it that far.

What can you do? You've been trained in CPR but the guy that taught the course, didn't tell you what to do if it happened to yourself.

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, this article seemed to be in order. Without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about very two seconds without let up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital. Tell as many other people as possible about this, it could save their lives!

A BOSTON CLUB?

Well, we have a Bronx Club, plans are underway for a Brooklyn Club and now George Steinberg wants to develop a Boston Club. Hmmmm! I think we are missing a few thousand more area clubs. How about the next club being called the MISCELLANEOUS CLUB. You are automatically a member if you don't live in Boston, The Bronx or Brooklyn. Here's George's note:

All Ex Bostonians should contact george steinberg or Stan Kaye,as the emergence of a Boston Club is in the process of forming This would encompass quarterly meetings to chat about the good old days in Boston and vicinity. (Note: I wonder if Bucky Dent's name will ever come up in their discussions?)

TIPS FOR THE HOMEOWNER (if you have more, please send them to me)

Reheat Pizza- Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove ,
set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza.
I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

Easy Deviled Eggs- Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal , mash till they are
all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients , reseal , keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy , squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

Expanding Frosting- When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store , whip it
with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

Reheating refrigerated bread - To warm biscuits , pancakes , or muffins that were refrigerated , place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

Newspaper weeds away- Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil.
Wet newspapers put layers around the plants overlapping as you go
cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through
some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

Broken Glass- Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

No More Mosquitoes- Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away. (Hmmm! I keep finding the dryer sheet in with the folded towels. Does this mean I'm supposed to just where a towel when going outside and to make sure I hold onto the dryer sheets. It will probably keep the mosquitoes away as well as scare away some of my neighbors.)

Squirrel Away!- To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants
with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Flexible vacuum- To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add
an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum.
It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Reducing Static Cling - Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not
have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and -- ta da! -- static is gone. (Emailer's Note: I am going to try this and see if it works!)

Measuring Cups- Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with
hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, honey, olive oil, etc. and watch how easily it comes right out.

Foggy Windshield?- Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in
the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

Reopening envelope- If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include
something inside , just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two
Viola! It unseals easily.

Conditioner- Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper
than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair... (Emailer's Note: HMMM! I'll try this also)

Goodbye Fruit Flies- To get rid of pesky fruit flies , take a small glass fill it 1/2'
with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid , mix
well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever! (Emailer's Note - if you do this I'm calling the Humane Society - you would be nothing more then a FRUIT FLY KILLER!)

Get Rid of Ants
- Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it ,
take it 'home', can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains , but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS
The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes
things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us
something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint
filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter
after every load clothes.) He took the filter over to the
sink, ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh
material - I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks
like. WELL...the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't
I go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film
over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't
SEE the film , but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to
make your clothes soft and static free - that nice fragrance too,
you know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box,
well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen.

This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire & potentially
burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your
dryer working for a very long time (& to keep your electric bill
lower) is to take that filter out & wash it with hot soapy water &
an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He
said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long!

How about that!?! Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn't
know dryer sheets would do that. So , I thought I'd share!
Note: I went to my dryer & tested my screen by running water on
it. The water ran through a little bit but mostly collected all
the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water &
a nylon brush & I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when I rinsed it
the water ran right Thru the screen! There wasn't any puddling at
all! That repairman knew what he was talking about!

THAT'S IT FOR NOW (My Fingers - Hi Stu and Max) are numb already.
