CHECK YOUR ALARM SYSTEM BOXES
BE PREPARED TO CHANGE THE BATTERY

A MESSAGE FROM A REGENCY HOMEOWNER

I had my alarm system installed at the time the house was built - five years ago. As the terminal box and transformer are in a secluded place, I rarely if ever look at it. Yet, the other day, my wife happened to be in the area of the box and noticed that the plastic transformer box (plugged into the wall outlet) was extremely hot and had turned the plastic cover of the transformer from gray to brown.

While the service technician from JM Security assured me that it would not get hot enough to start a fire, he still changed it and the battery as well. It seems to me that batteries are only good for about five years.

So, it might be a good idea for residents to check the transformers and change the battery (if it is close to five years old).

CARD GAMES

Two emails ago I sent out a message regarding who plays various games on which days and at what times. I wasn't aware that our HOA has been working on this problem.

Charlie Lerman sent me an email and mentioned that the Rules and Regulations Committee has been asked to handle the problem. Carl Gordon wrote to me indicating that he and his committee will be formulating some R&R's, so the Emailer is happy to turn this over to Carl and his committee.

Even though my original email dealt only with the Men's games, many women contacted me to ask that whatever is done should also apply to the women's games since there are some problems with some days and times. I would assume that when Carl and his committee get done with their recommendations it would be for both Men and Women.

My apologies also to both Stephanie and Gail. In my email I assumed that Gail would be handling the making of reservations for the various games and where they would be played. This was, at one time, the job of our Activities Director but Stephanie mentioned that Gail would not be handling reservations.

TESTING YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM

I have received a very interesting, yet disturbing telephone call from a resident concerning her security alarm system with Westminster. Are you sure that your system is operational? This resident not only, by accident, set off her alarm system, but accidently pressed the panic alarm. The problem - NO TELEPHONE CALL FROM WESTMINSTER - NO POLICE - NO NOTHING! She called Westminster and she got the company that Westminster uses for monitoring and they told her that no alarm was activated on their end. She called the police and no they had no call or anything so nobody was sent. If the Panic alarm was for real, I don't think I have to tell you about the consequences.

Well, this definitely made me realize that at least two times a year I will be calling Westminster to do a TEST of my system, which would include the Panic Alarm. I know my system works since I once set it off by accident and someone did call, but what if something eventually makes the system inoperative. It would be best to play safe then be sorry. So run these TESTS periodically.

MENS’ BOWLING

Our Fall league will begin on Thursday, September 20 at 6:45 PM.
We will again be bowling at Strathmore Lanes. We have 16 teams of three men each. Since we usually do not have all of the bowlers present, we have openings for pacers to bowl three games for fun. The cost is $9 per night.

The brunch will be on Sunday, September 16 at 1145 AM at Forsgate Country Club. The brunch is for those bowlers who bowled both the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 seasons and those who bowled one season and paid the additional cost.

If there are any questions, call Stanley Sandler at 605-9373 or Herb Cohen at 656-3033.

To Desperate Water Exercisers:

This note is from the Water Volley Ball Players:

Over a year ago we created the dividers (3) for the pool so that we had a defined space for our games. We used only broken noodles that were piled up by the lifeguards station and attached them to red ropes. We did not, nor have we ever, cut up whole noodles.

You are going to have to look elsewhere for the culprit(s) who are walking away with the noodles.
