MY APOLOGIES - LOOKING FOR A "VOLUNTEER"

Inadvertently I had left out some information from the details regarding the viewing times for Tony Caccamo. My apologies for my error. Carmine gave me all the correct information but when he was dictating it to me I had written some of the info on the back of the page and when I typed it, I forget that information was on the back of the piece of paper. Fortunately, word of mouth seems to have gotten the message out.

Unfortunately I couldn't send a correction email since the problems I am having with distributing emails prevents my sending out emails too often to large groups. However, some good news! The test I ran with the recent company that I can use to send out bulk emails seems to work. One other situation has to be worked out and once it is - Regency can be emailed 10x a day even with 1500 email addresses.

As you know I have been doing this job close to 5 years. It's been my pleasure and I thank each and everyone of you for all those nice emails and messages. I do have one favor to ask of a Regency resident. Don't worry, I am not going to ask you to write emails on a weekly basis (unless you want to). My favor is simple, I need someone to send out true EMERGENCY emails when I am not present. Greta and I were in Boston about 2 weeks ago and when I got back I had to send a message out almost IMMEDIATELY. Unfortunately we all know to well what constitutes an EMERGENCY. Some times Kieve or Charlie would need to get residents together for some EMERGENCY meeting. So backup to Ron is essential.

What does this entail. Don't worry, you will NOT be sending out 418 separate emails. You will NOT be copying and pasting the same message into 14 separate email boxes. Once the new system of emailing is instituted, you will get the password and login info from me. You type the message and with one click the message gets sent to everyone on the contact list (which is now 418 residents). That's it! So it is just one email and nothing else. The only other thing I would ask of the "volunteer" is to keep the confidentiality of residents email addresses. It can't be shared with other residents based upon commitments given to Kieve, Charlie and Stephanie. It also has to do with the commitment given to each of you that once you give me your email address, you gave it to me for emailing purposes and not for general distribution to anyone and everyone.

It would take no more than 10 minutes to teach anyone how to send out an emergency email. I would prefer of course, a resident who isn't a snowbird or a frequent vacationer since, just like in my good old working days, you might have to be "on call". Thank you and please remember, an emailer doesn't have to be gender specific! Once I find this "volunteer" I will let the community know who he or she is and again in my absence this person can be contacted to send out a true emergency type email.

CONGRATULATIONS TO GAIL AND PAUL NAMM

It's a first for the Namm's! Their first grandchild, ZACHARY DORON GLATT was born on 1/9/07 to Robin and Joseph Glatt. Zachary weighed 8 lbs. 9 oz. and was 20" tall. We send our very best wishes for a lifetime of good health and happiness to Zachary Doron, his parents and grandparents. So let's see some of the pictures!

Subject: Property Tax Legislation in the NJ Legislature Date

The year 2007 may see the most significant changes in the inequitable NJ property tax system in over 30 years. I/we think it is important that we share our thoughts with you at this critical time. Frankly, we are extremely disappointed that 2006 ended with no progress on a matter that is easily the most important issue bothering NJ voters, regardless of their political party. It is woefully obvious that most of the members of the NJ Legislature have an agenda that is not supported by NJ voters. That agenda appears to be maintaining the status quo that is so ardently supported by special interest groups. Suggesting any significant change to this disastrous tax system might jeopardize that legislator's possibility for re-election. This year is so important to us, as taxpayers, because every member of the Senate and the Legislature is up for re-election.

Let us be perfectly clear. We are not interested in re-electing members of the Senate or the Legislature, unless they have demonstrated a sincere effort at achieving property tax reform. I/we are residents of an adult community in Monroe Township, Regency at Monroe. You are familiar with our community because we have generated tax related items of correspondence to each of you. Thus, you are aware of the considerable efforts we have expended at every level of government to seek a fair adjustment of our assessments that border on extortion. Unfortunately, each level of government has refused to assume any responsibility for resolving our problems. We have been forced to seek redress through the Courts, because there is no other way to proceed. We will do whatever is necessary, we will fight any battle, we will not stop until we have reached equity with the rest of Monroe Township.

This Sunday's Star-Ledger published a table that showed "Town-by-town property tax changes" for each county in New Jersey. Monroe Township showed a 62.4% increase in property taxes since 2000. The average bill was calculated by applying the tax rate for the calendar year to the average assessment. Allow me to put this data in context. Monroe has not been revalued since 1993. Therefore, homes that were assessed prior to 1993 had minor tax increases, based on changes to the tax rate. Their assessments have remained fixed. Purchasers of new home construction, subsequent to 1993, are the major contributors to that 62.4% tax increase. The table shows an average 2006 tax bill in Monroe of $4,912. The average tax bill in the Regency community for 2006 is $9291, based on an average assessment of $286,775, and a tax rate of $3.24 per 100 dollars of assessed value. My personal tax bill is 18% higher than the average.

This inequitable situation could have been corrected easily if the Legislature required revaluations on a regular basis, rather than at the whim of some local politician. We brought this to your attention recently, and were instructed by the Middlesex County Tax Administrator to seek redress in the Court. This is what we are doing. The County Tax Board has refused to do anything to correct the tax situation. Our battle thus far has been expensive, and extremely time consuming. It is almost criminal that, at this time in our lives, we are forced to initiate a law suit against the very elected officials that are supposed to represent us. This is at every level of NJ government.

This is not a personal indictment of each of you, because we are aware of the efforts you, individually, have expended to attempt to make our government more responsive and more accountable. However, you are our only avenue to the Legislature. We implore you to become even more robust. As this election year progresses, we will continue to ally ourselves with other citizens across NJ to hold our elected officials responsible. We fully intend to exploit whatever power we have at the ballot box in November.

As a final thought, we saw one recommendation from the Legislature that would cap tax reductions for anyone making over $100,000 in income. We believe that any cap on tax reductions is not acceptable. The fundamental problem in Trenton is that our elected officials do not have the stomach to reduce unnecessary expenses and re-introduce ethics into the mainstream of politics. We will be watching developments in Trenton very carefully over the next few months.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. As the year develops, we will continue to share items of concern with you.

Sincerely,
