LITTLE PIDDLE (STU FINGER) STRIKES AGAIN!!

For those of you who are new to Regency, you are probably wondering what is this LITTLE PIDDLE. It dates back to my very early emailing when I gave Stu Finger his "official" nickname. He will always be known as Regency's "LITTLE PIDDLE".

The stories that Stu tells, they sound unreal but in reality they do happen. We all remember the story about Stu's daughter who went to a car wash and drove away in her SUV. All of a sudden someone in the back of the SUV jumps up and says, "HELLO MISSY!" and Stu's daughter starts screaming, "AHHHH!". Then that person starts screaming, "AHHHHH!". After everyone settled down it turns out that the person in the back was cleaning Stu's daughters windows and she drove away with him. Naturally she brought him back to the car wash and all of his friends were on the ground rolling and laughing.

Well, here's a new one for Stu. In fact I think this might be the first for Regency. A friend of Max (the Piddle's wife) came over and both she and Max went out together in Max's car. The "Pid" needed to go to his doctor's office and Max's friend was parked behind Stu, who was parked in his garage. Stu doesn't own one of those cars that can move horizontally into a parking space but he does own a Toyota Scion. The "Pid" thinks awhile and decides that he can make a
K-Turn in his garage. Not only was he able to make a K-Turn and go out of the garage on Max's side, he did it in one shot. To put this in it's proper prospectus, his K-Turn is equivalent to getting a hole in one. So, on my BLOG, under hole's in one, I have added the Piddle for his spectacular achievement. Congratulations "Pid"!!!!

After seeing his Scion, I would have done one better. I would just pick it up and carry it out of the garage. I think it weighs about 10 pounds.

GE PROFILE WALL OVENS

Many of us have these wall ovens so I want to save you some dollars if a code like F7 appears on the digital part of the oven. Just go to your circuit breaker box and flip the switch for the oven. Wait 30 seconds and if the code disappears you just saved some money on a service call.

CEILING FANS

A resident, who owns Casablanca ceiling fans wants to know if anyone recently has had any problems with the lights on the fan going out and staying out.

In my home we have about 11 ceiling fans (not Casablanca) and only one with a light that also doesn't work. I know that when we have electrical spikes or brownouts or power failures, the fans either turn on by themselves or shut off. This is sort of common since many of you have already mentioned that your fans respond this way. However, let me know if your Casablanca fan lights got "zapped" recently.

AMERICAN HOME SHIELD

I'm not here to sell home service contracts but I do receive many emails and calls regarding who do I use for X or Y appliances or service type repairs. About a year ago I switched from Garden State Heating and Cooling to American Home Shield, a company that you would find on the Internet. Why? Well, first of all Garden State's contract was for repair and replace parts but if the entire unit (let's say your Furnace or Hot Water Heater went), would not be replaced. The homeowner would need to purchase these units and Garden State would then install it. I believe that Garden State also didn't cover Microwaves, Garage door openers, ceiling fans, etc.

Just recently my garage door opener went, The next day American Home Shield sent someone. He not only fixed the problem but serviced both of our garage door openers (sprayed lubricant on the track and even tightened both chains, which needed adjustment plus made sure the door closure was what it should be). This same week as I mentioned above my wall oven had a problem. A day later the problem happened again and within a 2 day period, AHS contacted Sears (they do GE service) and they will be coming back to replace a certain part.

My son had to have his refrigerator replaced and it was replaced with the same brand but the current model. I had my garbage disposal unit replaced - and it was definitely a better unit then what Toll gave us. Even if it wasn't I really don't care because it will get replaced if it goes bad again in 6 years.

They do cover your AC units. The only thing they don't do is the preventive maintenance on the units so I took out a separate contract with the company they use. What I like is that I make one call for about 15 different things that are covered. I don't have to even call an electrician or a plumber if something needs repair.

Some people have complained about the service they might receive from a company that AHS sends out. I have only found excellent service from each company that was sent. If you don't like what was done AHS would send another company.

Again, I am not here to sell you anything. I just want you to be made aware of this type of service program and you can then decide upon your own whether or not you would want something like this. Remember, "AN EDUCATED CONSUMER IS THE BEST CONSUMER".

PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF OUR NEW FRIEND AT REGENCY

Tonight (Wed) at about 8:30 I was driving past the clubhouse when I came upon a very large bird in the road - I think it is some type of egret - long stick-like white legs and very long thin curved beak, also white - feathers grayish - it flew into the pond where it seems to be having a grand time scooping up frogs - I just want the residents to be careful driving around here at night, not to speed and keep your eyes out for this beautiful creature - we don't want to harm it in any way

(Note: If this Egret is going to make Regency it's home, we should make sure it abides by all the Rules and Regulations of the HOA, which includes:
1. No frog eating after 11 PM
2. Only 4 guests allowed for our pool
3. Defintely no party's after 10 AM
4. No children under the age of 18
5. No golfing after the Pro Shop closes
6. Friends must stop at the gate house to be allowed in
7. No "pooping" in Phase I areas
8. Female Egrets may join the Women's Club; Males, the Men's Club provided that the constitution is amended to allow Egrets.
9. Depending upon their voices, they may be allowed to be in our Chorus.

POLICY'S THAT AUTOMATICALLY RENEW THEMSELVES

I know that some of us were a little upset about the fine print in the Westminster Security agreement which states that the policy is automatically renewed upon renewal. To change this, it was suggested that you send an email indicating that you want the contract terminated at the end of the renewal period. Doing this shouldn't be problematic.

A resident informed me that the possibility also exists that two other policy's you have may have the same automatic renewals at the end of the contract period. They are:
1. Your Homeowner's Policy
2. Your car insurance policy

Now here was the problem with NOT asking for these contracts to be terminated upon renewal. The homeowner found another insurance company that could save him some dollars. So he called to cancel his homeowner's insurance and they told him that he can't because his contract period ends, let's say 10 months from now. He said, "what if I don't pay?" Answer, "you will be billed". I believe later on in the conversation, the company rep said that there will be a penalty fee for canceling the policy early.

I just can't believe some law doesn't protect us against things like this. As mentioned in my last email, a resident attorney indicated that in NY things like this don't exist but in NJ, the laws seem to favor "big business" and not the consumer.

VERIZON DSL 3MB

Check your bill. If you are paying $32.99/month call Verizon 1-800-567-6789 and ask for the $29.99 program. This is for the high speed 3 MB program. Let's see - $3 a month X 12 months, another $36 savings. I have also heard that some residents have gotten their DSL as low as $24.99. That's on my agenda for next week to call again.

THAT'S IT FOR NOW
